My name is Annika.

I'm a sustainable energy engineer passionate about climate action and the global energy transition. I have extensive international experience with a special focus on Africa.

Carbon market advisory

I untangle the complexities of carbon markets, including latest developments in host country regulation and Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

Carbon project certification

I manage carbon certification under all important carbon standards from project idea to carbon credit issuance.

Project development

I develop and manage projects with high climate impacts in renewable energy, clean cooking and waste management among others.

About

About Me

I hold a B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Konstanz and a M.Sc. in Sustainable Energy Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark in Copenhagen and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim.

I have many years of work experience in carbon finance and project management in the climate sector. Naturally curious, I bring openness and flexibility to new challenges and love working in teams and across different cultures.

Originally from Germany, I have lived in Finland, Ecuador, Türkiye, Malawi, Denmark, Norway, Belgium and Tanzania. I can work in English, German and Spanish. I also speak Danish, Turkish, French and Swahili to varying degrees.

I love the outdoors, cooking and magical realism.

My Projects

I lead the carbon markets workstream of the FCDO-funded UK-Tanzania Green Growth Facility implemented by global advisory firm Palladium. In this role I work to support the growth of Tanzania's nascent carbon market.

As a co-founder of the Tanzania Climate Network I am building and managing a network of climate action professionals in Tanzania with currently 100+ members.

Having started my career in climate action with German climate non-profit atmosfair in 2019, I now support them as a Senior Advisor. This includes building partnerships, scouting new project opportunities and monitoring regulatory and political developments.

Together with Perspectives Group, I am currently developing a grouped carbon project for electric mobility in East Africa for German development agency GIZ.

I serve as Senior Climate Solutions Advisor for climate impact firm Milkywire, working on thought leadership, project evaluation and representation at events.

For global consulting firm Tetra Tech I am carrying out an analysis of carbon methodologies and performing carbon impact modelling for solar irrigation activities

For mini-grid developer Virunga Energies in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, I developed carbon finance scenarios for scaling up electric cooking.

For the UK Aid research programme MECS, I reviewed and analysed the technical needs and available resources for digital Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (dMRV) of modern cooking systems. Read the final report here.
